China's plant extract industry has broad prospects

The 2024 China Health Product Raw Materials Conference and International Procurement Information Exchange Conference, hosted by the China Chamber of Commerce for Import and Export of Medicines and Health Products, was recently held in Xi'an, Shaanxi. At the conference booth, plant extract companies enthusiastically introduced their company's flagship products to exhibitors. China has approximately 30,000 plant species, making it one of the countries with the richest plant resources and the most comprehensive system in the world. Plant extracts can be used as raw materials in the production of food, traditional Chinese medicine, health products, daily chemical products, cosmetics, and aquaculture inputs.

Data from the China Chamber of Commerce for Import and Export of Medicines and Health Products show that ginger extract, garlic extract, milk thistle extract, ginkgo leaf extract, wolfberry extract, etc. from China are favored by overseas markets. In 2023, China's plant extract exports reached 23.88 billion yuan, with a global market share of over 20%, ranking first in the world. Recently, at the 2024 China Health Product Raw Materials Conference and International Procurement Information Exchange Conference, representatives from government, industry, academia, research, and business sectors, who are concerned about China's natural health product raw materials industry, gathered together and stated that China's plant extract industry has broad prospects in the future.
